A Yuletide Message. Words And Music By John Young.
This song is about Afghanistan. It’s written from the viewpoint of a Taliban soldier (who has a strangely Welsh lilt to his voice). It’s about the idea that the best recruitment tool for the Taliban is the actual existence of the UN forces in their country. This song is part of the ''Protest Songwriting Contest''.

We’d like to say thanks, you’ve been so kind,
Our country’s been laden with doubt,
Your intervention has made us strong,

Close the door on your way out

In spite of your kindness we want you to go,
You’ve done more to help than you’ll ever know,
Our ranks are expanding as we speak,

You’ve done our recruiting for us.

We wish you Merry Christmas we hope you have fun,
We’re sending a present with love from Helmand,
A flag draped box containing your son,

Best Wishes from Afghanistan.

We would like to express our heartfelt thanks,

That you came to our country with your planes and your tanks,

To show us the way that we should live,

Thank you so much for your kindness.

We’d like to return your thoughtfulness,
We’d like to visit you,

We’ll organize something special,
So you’ll remember us too
CHORUS
