Heating Grants From Fingal Co. Council

Question: Councillor D. Butler on the 11th of November 2013.
To ask the Manager what housing renovation grants, such as heating, insulation,
etc are available for:
(a) Council tenants and
(b) Private home owners, primarily the elderly.

The Council does not operate any housing renovation grants for tenants.
However, all of the Council’s housing stock has a form of heating. In 2012
and 2013 a number of energy efficiency projects have been undertaken by
the Council with in excess of 2,500 dwellings receiving attic insulation and
cavity wall insulation during this period. In addition the Council has
replaced the windows and doors of its 1 bed dwellings, which house some
of the most vulnerable of the Council’s tenants, with double glazing to
improve the energy efficiency of these dwellings. This programme has
since been extended to 2 bed dwellings which has been completed and it
is hoped to further extend the programme in 2014 subject to the
availability of funding.

(b) The Council operates three separate Grant Schemes for qualifying home
owners. These include (a) Housing Adaptation Grant for People with a
Disability (b) Mobility Aids Grant (c) Housing Aid for Older People. Fingal
County Council has been allocated a total of €1,825,545 from the
Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government to
fund the 3 Grant Schemes in question during 2013, of which €365,109 is
to be provided from the Council’s own resources. Grants totalling
€1,825,435 have been committed from the 2013 allocation.
