YR ENETH GADD EI GHRTHOD / The Rejected Maiden 3/4 (Traditional Welsh Song)
Lyrics and chords fit Siwsann George’s version from her album ‚Traditional Songs of Wales / Caneuon Traddodiadol Cymru’. The version by Sara Meredydd is similar but requires a capo on the 2nd fret. The video also contains an English translation of eaxch line.
The song is based on a true story of a girl from the Corwen area of Meirioneth. She is heard bemoaning her fate at becoming prgnant and being rejected by her family. Her last words to the world are:
“Make me a grave in a lonely place. Don’t raise a stone or monument to mark where lie the ashes of a rejected maiden. “
