For those already not familar with shopping in a Lidl store, well you'll be a bit surprised as it's not
quiet like a standard supermarket we are used to in Ireland.
The first think you'll notice is that most food is pre-packed including the meat. There is no butchers
counter at Lidl. There is no tobacco sold. There are no newspapers or sweet shop. The shopping isles have a mixture of food
on one side and general hardware on the other site, so for example you may see bread on the same isle as a power drill
or petrol generators. You will not hear any backround piped music being played.The whole emphasis is on choice, giving the
customer what they want at a price that suits their pocket. You will find branded goods alongside own brand goods. There are
no shopping baskets at Lidl, only trollies.

Lidl is to open one of it's shops in Swords. The site of the new store is Esso filling station on the Rathbeale Road
close to J.Cs supermarket.. Planning permission has been granted to Lidi with certain conditions attached such as opening
hours, unloading of deliveries. Objections to Lidl came from the residents of nearby housing estates whose main objection
were the loss of the filling station and the increase of traffic in the area when the store opens. Another objection came
from J.C Savage's supermarket. The local Socialist party councillor Clare Daly has said the decision to grant Lidl planning
permission will not be tolerated and plans are afoot to lodge an objection on behalf of the residents with An Board Pleanala.
Update March 2011 - Rumor has it that Lidl may open a branch in Rivervalley. The Centra shop in the Valley is big enough with ample car parking spaces. Sources say that talks have taken place with the
shop owner
