Millfield Shopping Center Balbriggan

With the opening of The Millfield Shopping Center on 11th April it will surley bring stiff compitition to The Pavilions in Swords. The new Balbriggan shopping center is the largest development ever in the town at a cost of eighty millon euro. Up to 15 shops will open on the first day with several more opening during the summer. The anchor tennant is Tesco with McDonald's fast food opening a drive through chipper in the summer. The Pavilions in Swords will be hit as it's estamated over half the shoppers to The Pavilions come from outside Swords with many from as far as Balbriggan. When The Millfield center is fully occupied with tennents it will create over 400 new jobs for the Balbriggan which has one of the highest levels of unemployment in the country.The Tesco store will will sell clothes, electrical goods, toys, books music and movies. There are 1,000 free car parking spaces, unlike The Pavilions where you must pay if you stay over a period of time to do the shopping. Review- After my first visit to the center I was very impressed with the whole experence, the first thing I noticed when you drive in is the ease of parking, there are none of those dreaded barriers where you take a ticket. The Tesco shop is well laid out with groceries on the ground floor and drapery on the first floor along with hardware. The second floor also has a computer section along with stationary supplies and stuff for cars. The staff were friendly and helpful. Not all the shops are open yet but there's plenty in The Millfield Shopping Center to keep you occupied for a few hours. Update August 2011-The recorded number of shoppers now passing through the doors is 70,000 a week which is over three times the number of people living in Balbriggan, the 70,000 was the expected number with full occupance. But with some shops still not opened this figure is well ahead of expectations. The main reason for the high number is the 24 hour opening of the anchor tenant Tesco.
