The Ballad Of A Drinkin' Man Lyrics . Written and recorded by Bat Kinane. Bat is a songwriter from Co. Wicklow, He usually writes folk, rock and country songs but he recently wrote a ballad, Bat's hoping to find a home for it with some established band. Lyrically its like a more tragic "Seven drunken nights",

His name was Jimmy Stewart he was drinkin man
Some called him bastard his father was a black and tan

He never had much money for food or for rent
Cos when it came to Monday he'd have his money spent

When times were tough on Tue he'd often sing a song
I'll be good for it on dole day you know it wont be long

CHORUS :Hi Hi Ho its off to the pub he goes
to drink ten pints of porter for he is a thirsty man

Sometimes you'd see him wed his mind full of woe
Then he could be dangerous to family friend or foe

He could lose his temper Thursday take off his vest
Throw his fists around the room and leave a bloody mess
CHORUS :Hi Hi Ho its off to the pub he goes
to drink ten pints of porter for he is a thirsty man
You'd see him smiling Fri handing in five pound
and the bar room boys that drank with him said that he was dead sound

He back four horses Saturday and more often he would lose
He'd be hiding out down the back drinking away his blues

CHORUS :Hi Hi Ho its off to the pub he goes
to drink ten pints of porter for he is a thirsty man

All his worldly troubles kept him closer to the ground
He'd disappear on Sunday before it was his round

That's the life of a drinker they always have a plan
We'll sing a song for Jimmy the ballad of a drinkin' man
