How could there be a famine in Ireland, when Ireland had an abundance of food, Enough to feed thirty million taking

I wrote a new Celtic song called the "Celtic people". It's the fourth song I've written for our great supporters
who have suffered much under somewhat oppressive authorities in Scotland. They have never excepted the Irish as the biggest
ethnic community in Scotland or allowed them freedom of expression, all others are recognised and their heritage calibrated,
but unfortunately they do not allow the same freedom to the Irish.
They persecute and harness those who try to celebrate and display the musical and historic song traditions of their ancestry,
they ban and punish those who dare to sing what they term a 'Rebel' song, which are songs of freedom and resistance against
what was in Ireland successive uncaring, oppressive Governments.
The latest song addresses all the issues that our supporters were taunted and accused of; for instance' the Famines over,
go home'. Well those who know their history will understand that there was no Famine, the country was full of food,
enough to feed 30 million people but it was taken out of Ireland at the point of a gun, leaving millions of Irish people to
starve, as the song says "40,000 well fed soldiers were sent to take our food away" and they did. Daniel O'Connell begged
the Imperial Government just to leave the oats in Ireland, take everything else but leave something to save the people, but
an uncaring heartless Government refused.
The next accusation against our supporters is that they are sectarian. Well nothing could be further from the
truth! For instance, the great figures from Irish history are from all religious backgrounds, Protestant, Presbyterian
and Catholic, they fought side by side against sectarianism and for freedom. So those who make these stupid comments are very
ignorant of the historic facts. The question is, how can you accuse those who celebrate all heroes of all religions sectarian?!
The third point is they have no place in Scotland, again it's total ignorance of their history. Ireland known as
Scotia Major was the land of the Scots, Alba became an extension of Scotia and from the many Irish (Scots) who settled there
eventually gave the name to the Land which became known as Upper Scotia and eventually after Ireland was ravished by invaders,
it became known as Scotland. The Gaelic speaking people of Ireland settled and brought their language, culture and music to
the land that became known as Argyll, AireGael the Territory of the Gael.
Saint Columba (Colmcille ) native of Gartan, County Donegal, brought Christianity there and from his base in Iona
succeeded in converting the Pictish people, bringing education, music and the wonders of the sciences and knowledge developed
by generations of dedicated Monks in the monasteries of Ireland to enlighten and educate them.
In later times when Scotland was fighting for the survival of it's existence, the Irish fought side by side with
the Scottish chiefs against the English with Wallace, Bruce and of course the Jacobites and paid a high price for it!
The harpers of Ireland were travelling to many parts of Scotland, bringing their musical skills right up to the late eighteenth
century. Hempson, the harper from Derry records his story of meeting and playing for Bonny Prince Charlie. He also stated
that none of the Lairds of Scotland had a harp in their castles, excepting one demonstrating the important part played by
the Irish musicians in enriching the musical heritage of Scotland. So there is a long, deep tradition going back centuries
so Ireland's influence and it's people should and must be recognized.
