On (D) this rock I (G) sit for (Em) the joy of (A) it,
Watching the (D) Atlantic’s (G) uplifting (A) waves,
(D) Ireland.
Here in Galway Bay just the other day
An old woman turned to me with fear in her eyes,
Ireland.
(D) Ireland, our (G) land; (Em) a sacred (G) island
(Bm) Facing (G) America - (D) on shifting (G) sand,
(D)
Ire(A)land.(D)
(A) Now I gaze around the (F# m) shore
Wondering what’s in (G) store for our (D) daughter,(A)
Who is
running in the (F# m) sand
Holding out her (G) hand (D) towards the (E) water.
I look out to sea where it’s all hazy;
I pray, still uplifted on this rock,
Ireland.
