The Volunteers Of Ireland Lyrics By  Derek Warfield
This street ballad was rewritten and added to, for the bicentennial of the 1798 rebellion. of Derek. He wrote the music while at Lough Swilly and called  it the Volunteers March
.

True Patriots of Erin's Isle, come listen to me song
Let's commemorate and celebrate our heroes dead and gone
Well honor all our martyred sons with courage proud and great,
Who nobly died for Ireland in the year of '98

Two hundred years have passed away since brave Lord Edward died,
His memory all Irish berms inspire with hope and pride,
The Lion of the Geraldires he scorned their Lordly state,
And bravely fell for liberty with the men of '98.
(horns
For the Volunteers of Ireland they come from near and far,
And well sing a rousing chorus from Belfast to Costlebar,
All patriots of Erin with pride commemorate
And glory to the women and the men of '98.

To gallant men a monument we'll raise in Dublin Town,
Quite heedless of the English sneers, likewise the Tory frown,
The Orange and the Green will twine though Politicians prate,
And stand United Irishmen like those of '98

from Antrim Town to Wexford and west to Castlebar,
Our rallying cry for Ireland was remember Willie Orr
The Brothers Shears, Henry Joy, Munroe, we'll venerate,
And honor to their memory boys who fell Sr '98.

Brave Fathers Roche and Murphy, Michael Dwyer and Joseph Holt,
And Doyle from old Kilcullan who forced Dundas to halt
They took the field for fatherland, no forigner dictate
The action or the words of those men on '98

No English rule from London, Irish spirit they'll subdue
We'll meet them as our fathers did, at Oulart and Carmew
Our energies in Ireland's cause, we never will abate.
But take courage and example from the men of '98

Then here's to all the Calins true, who with their brothers fought
And betsy Grey who fell with all the rebels from the North
The heroins of Wexford, who fell ay the siege of Ross.
And Mary Ann McCracken who mourned her brother's loss

Oh blessing on their memories boys, who stuck the tyrant down,
And peace and glory to their souls who won the martyr's crown
Oh never let us forget their deeds to emulate
And be prepared for freedom's call, like those of '98
